New Cafe in Val Marie has Southwest buzzing….

The Harvest Moon Cafe is a new restaurant in Val Marie and is now open. We look forward to heading that way for a taste of the local food. Very happy to see a new business come to one of our favorite communities!

Tourism Swift Current AGM 2013 will be FANTASTIC!

Community Futures Southwest attended the AGM of Tourism Swift Current 2012 in April. It’s held at the Living Sky Casino and the two day event always provides tons of information, booths with take aways to get you excited, and the food is always great. This year was no different, it was nice to see a few more people attend. The food done by the casino was very good, the speakers were informative and energetic. We left with tons of information, contacts of other organizations to partner with, and the knowledge we can use to build our community better! Thank you to Tourism Swift Current for another wonderful AGM! Looking forward to next year….

Municipal Capacity Development Program hit Val Marie…

The MCDP was in Val Marie on Tuesday, April 16 to discuss Regional Planning and Community Resource Inventories. Community Futures Southwest was amongst some of the participants. Also in attendance was; the Mayor of Ponteix, Economic Development Officer’s for the Communities of Hazlet, Val Marie, and Maple Creek. Representatives from Transportation, Cypress Hills Tourism and Tourism Saskatchewan also joined the meeting.

We learned about how to plan regionally and put our vast community assets to work for us. Very informative, the speaker’s did excellent jobs and we had a great day!

Frontier and Junior Achievement…What a fun day !

Students from Frontier, Sask and surrounding area’s were in attendance when Community Futures Southwest travelled to the Town to hold a Junior Achievement Workshop for the day.

The students made mock budgets and held fake jobs to see if they balance at the end of the month or if they were in the hole. They played a game on real life senario’s in the workforce that had them either being fired or promoted.

They learned a few things, as did we like we do when we spend the day with the students, and had a lot of Fun!

“Service”…”Service”…”Service”…Val Marie Business Workshop!

Earlier in the week, Community Futures Southwest held a business workshop in Val Marie, Sask. The Workshop was on marketing for small business with topics like social media, financial advice, dealing with financial institutes and investors and many more topics related to the needs of small business owners. In attendance was 6 small business owners from the Val Marie and surrounding area’s. We had some fun and left some good advice to the Town of Val Marie. Thank you to the Town for hosting and welcoming us into your community for the day!!!

Community Futures Southwest went “State Side”…

Community Futures Southwest travelled to Malta, Montana USA on March 8 2012 – for a meeting held by the Phillips County and with Represenatives from Malta, Senator Max Baucus, Commissioner’s from the county and Represenative’s from various Montana Organizations all in attendance it was a great meeting. Discussions were held on the Highway 4 project, the importance of US and Canada working together to finish the highway and to update the Ports to 24 hour’s. Awareness was brought to the US side of what Community Futures Southwest is working on and the progress we have made so far, and the need for their assistance to partner with Canada to help the project along. Met some very nice American friends and had some important talks! All in all, a great day…

Fun in Vanguard, Sask.

Community Futures Southwest attended the Vanguard Trade Show on Saturday, March 3 2012 at the Vanguard High School. CF’s put a booth in and provided information about our loans, video conference room rentals and business plans with financial advice. We saw over 200 people there and talked to close to a dozen people about small business. Great people in Vanguard, really nice booth’s with lot’s of very talented people and businesses. We had a lot of fun! Thank you to Vanguard for inviting us!

Oasis in Eastend is one of Community Future’s newest business success stories!

“Oasis” in Eastend, Sk. opened to the public recently. They offer all spa experiences, coming soon will be massage and nail services. As well as a lovely boutique, “Shannon’s Closet” (moved to this location) for that little something you can’t resist! We welcome them to Eastend and are very proud to have helped in bringing this business to such a wonderful community!
